Aquatic Development Group Wins WWA Leading Edge Award for Design/Build Soaky Mountain Waterpark IN THE NEWS | AQUATIC DEVELOPMENT GROUP | October 7, 2020

Aquatic Development Group (ADG) is proud to announce that their work as design/builder on Soaky Mountain Waterpark (Sevierville, TN), America’s ONLY new waterpark to open in 2020, has won the World Waterpark Association’s Leading Edge Award for 2020.

ADG designed and built Soaky Mountain Waterpark including, not only the building of all water features, but also assuming the role of construction manager for the full park build. Built during the wettest year of Sevierville’s history, and through a worldwide pandemic, this park build is a testament to the construction team’s ability to adapt and see projects through to completion, even in the toughest and unprecedented circumstances.

Soaky Mountain features all the very latest ride and design innovations, making this waterpark truly World- Leading. Home to several industry-first attractions and a new modern-design approach, the Soaky Mountain Waterpark sets the stage for future waterparks to come.

“We are incredibly proud to have won the Leading Edge Award for our work on Soaky Mountain”, said Jim Dunn, President of ADG, “The Soaky Mountain Waterpark project really showcases all of our company’s strengths. Through the toughest of circumstances ADG was able to deliver a state-of-the-art project with some of the world’s best attractions, and in a record time. It takes a special team, working with an incredible group of partners and developers, to pull this off. We could not be more pleased with the final product.”

This $90 million waterpark is home to over a dozen water attractions including two iconic wave rides – ADG’s 35,000 square foot Shorebreak™ Wave Pool with waves up to 6 feet high, and ADG’s Tidal River® spanning over 1,200 linear feet with 3’ roller waves, both powered by WaveTek®. Other featured attractions include a dual-Wibit® inflatable water obstacle course, a flat-water adult cabana pool, a double FlowRider® surf ride and several ProSlide water slides – including two of the world’s first.

“I want to take time to thank the ADG team for all the effort that was put into the Soaky Mountain project. The results speak for themselves with our guest reviews that we have received”, said Tim Gantz, Owner of Wilderness Group. “The entire process from inception to the opening could not have gone any better given all that was thrown our way. I fully expect that at this time next year we will be talking about expansion plans – this thing is a home run.”

Beyond the attraction mix, the aesthetics of all the buildings, furniture, landscape, theming and signage was designed to match Soaky’s “Mountain-Modern” brand – the perfect selection for a water park situated mere miles from the Smoky Mountains.

“In the shadow of something as impressive as the Smoky Mountains, Soaky Mountain Waterpark really does live up to the modern mountain theme,” said David Andrews, GM of Soaky Mountain Waterpark, “While it was no ordinary summer, Soaky Mountain waterpark opened with great success. ADG and the Wilderness team worked hand in hand to bring Sevier County a colossal waterpark truly worth conquering. Even though Covid-19 threw us several challenges, ADG and our team reacted to the challenges together and rose to the occasion to get the project done.”
