May 20th, 2019 (Cohoes, NY) The Gaylord Opryland, located in Nashville, TN, opened the outdoor portion of their ‘SoundWaves’ Water Experience to hotel guests on May 17th as part of a grand opening celebration. SoundWaves is an indoor/outdoor water experience designed and built by Aquatic Development Group (ADG) as part of their $90 million expansion project. The indoor portion opened in January of this year.
The new 106,000 sqft outdoor experience carries through the upscale design of the indoor park with high-end cabanas that line a 315,000 gallon wave pool that spans over 23,000 sqft and features a giant poolside LED movie screen. A 45ft slide tower featuring a 4-track mat racer and 2 drop slides, a 900 sqft adult-only pool, and a kids pool with custom multi-level play structure cap off the water attractions and include a sun lounge shelf and bench seating to accommodate parents who want to relax and enjoy the “experience” as much as the kids.
The indoor portion of Soundwaves features an additional 111,000 sqft of indoor fun and upscale amenities including more slides, a Flowrider surf attraction, two fast-paced rivers, and an adult-only pool and bar area on a separate mezzanine level.
The Gaylord Opryland expansion was designed by Blur Workshop of Atlanta, GA to represent a leap forward in architectural design for resort waterparks with innovative structure and design elements not seen before in the industry. To achieve this vision, Ryman and DF Chase, the construction manager, turned to their long-time partner Aquatic Development Group to bring the design of their water park to life. This is the fifth project for the threesome, having worked together on previous Gaylord Resorts and other resort water park developments, in a relationship that has spanned more than six years.
“ADG brings over half a century of experience and knowledge to our team,” notes James Chamblin, Vice President of Design & Construction at Ryman. “They have helped lead the way in creating superior settings in all aspects of aquatic resort recreation, tailoring project plans to fit their client’s vision and budget. Their Indepth™ approach and “get it done” culture ensures that every step of the process is carried out in the best interest of the clients overall business.”
