The Challenge
To add to the success of Six Flags Great Escape in Queensbury, NY, and take advantage of a four season market, Six Flags undertook to build an indoor waterpark. ADG was engaged to design and build a 35,000 sqft Adirondack-themed indoor waterpark and create a year-round attraction with multi-demographic appeal.
The Solution
Staying true to the Adirondack theme, the indoor waterpark is housed within a 35,000 sqft building complete with wood beams, trussed ceilings, and walls adorned with canoes, fishing rods, paddles, and realistic rock-scaping. A 5,000 sqft mezzanine was built to incorporate a new multi-level play structure which is surrounded by a 450ft zero-entry adventure river, FlowRider® wave surf system, slide complex and an activity pool.
For efficiency, and beauty, about 50% of the lodging roof incorporates Texlon™ transparent material allowing 75% of UV rays to penetrate the facility, permitting plant growth and allowing natural light to shine through for visitors to enjoy year-round.
The Result
Since its introduction, Great Escape Lodge has maintained the success of the Six Flags brand while drawing a year-round following. The lodge continues to welcome a steady stream of visitors from around the region looking to add indoor water fun to their outdoor adventures.
