Massanutten Resort

McGheysville, VA

Completely revolutionizing waterpark design and capitalizing on the breathtaking surrounding scenery, the  Massanutten Resort Waterpark located in central Virginia is currently the only one of its kind anywhere in the  United States.

ADG was selected to provide single-source responsibility for designing, engineering and building a stand-alone four-season indoor/outdoor waterpark facility within the Massanutten Resort timeshare community.

The 80,000 sq. ft., three-story indoor facility not only houses the unique aquatic features, but also functions as a community center offering something for everyone. The facility, which is open to the public, contains a 100-game video arcade, buffet-style restaurant, snack bars, lounge and assorted retail establishments.

The unique building design is one of it’s main attractions. The wood-framed pyramid shaped structure utilizes ADG’s Texlon, a cutting-edge transparent roofing system that combines exceptional UV light transmission with high thermal properties. This allows the growth of vegetation and occupants to tan while providing scenic views of the Shenandoah Valley and Blue Ridge Mountains creating the ultimate waterpark with maximum seasonality. Visitors to the resort can take advantage of the world class snow-skiing in the morning and still come back to the waterpark and surf indoors that same day.

A major feature of the 45,000 sq. ft. indoor park is the adventure river which encompasses the heavily-themed interactive play structure. The park also features a FlowRider 3400 stationary sheet wave surf system designed for both boogie boarding as well as stand-up surfing. The Pipeline is capable of accommodating up to two riders at a time.

Current expansion plans include a phase two indoor waterpark as well as multiple phases to the existing outdoor water and adventure park.

When the second Texlon covered pyramid is attached to the existing three-story support facility, the indoor waterpark will roughly double to over 90,000 square feet with a total facility build out of nearly 130,000 sq. ft.
